Urbasofia, a project partner of Woodcircles, proudly participated in the 60th ISOCARP World Planning Congress, organized by the International Society of City and Regional Planners.
Mădălina Rusen and Giorgia Romagnoli presented findings on activating and deploying locally adapted solutions in the circular economy. Their presentation, titled “Challenges and Opportunities for Closing the Loop on Wood in Urban Areas,” was delivered under Track 5: Circular Urbanity. It highlighted Woodcircles as a compelling case study, demonstrating how urban areas can innovate to promote sustainable wood use through circular strategies.

Reflecting on the experience, Giorgia Romagnoli remarked “It was an incredibly stimulating and insightful event, filled with enriching discussions with experts who share a common goal: planning for better cities. The days flew by with many valuable moments and plenary sessions where keynote speakers and experts led thought-provoking conversations on the future of urban development.”
The congress, themed “Reinventing the (In)Visible Cities: From Heritage to Innovation, Forging Pathways to Resilience,” sought to chart a course toward sustainable urban futures. Inspired by Italo Calvino’s visionary work Invisible Cities, delegates were encouraged to reimagine urban planning and design by envisioning the unseen and fostering resilience through innovation.
Additionally, Urbasofia also presented Woodcircles at the event Restructura Torino, contributing to a session on “Wood in Construction: Circular, Sustainable, and Locally Sourced Supply Chains.”
