Waugh Thistleton Architects (WTA), London-based architectural practice and Woodcircles’ partner, brings its vision to life in a new video interview, spotlighting the evolving role of timber in construction, sustainability, and design innovation.
Kirsten Haggart, WTA Director, emphasises how the use of reclaimed timber in construction is evolving, and which approach unlocks its potential through four circularity criteria:
- Reuse: how easy it’s to reuse the components of a building
- Longevity: how timber’s lifespan can be extended through its reuse
- Material sourcing: what’s the source of the material and how much of it, it is reused
- Ease of disassembly: how easy is to take the components apart
On top of these criteria, a central point to improve the reuse of components revolves around supplementing and sourcing the additional data needed to disassemble the buildings.
